It's Talking!
The following true story from the early 90's tells how cool Macs have always been. No PC could have done this then, and maybe not even now...A Mac user in a tech office cubicle would often take his work home on a zip disk. One night, after a long day at work, he went home, fired up his Mac and, as he often did whenever he needed something from the office, dialed up and connected remotely to his office Mac. On this night he realized he had left the zip disk of important files at the office. He connected to his office Mac but, to his dismay, discovered the zip disk was NOT mounted (or in the zip drive)... it had been ejected and was sitting halfway out of the drive. This is what he tried next... He created a SimpleText document on his office Mac REMOTELY... and on the SimpleText page he typed the following: "Hello? Hello! If anybody is in the office and can hear this, please come to Mark's cubicle and push in the zip disk on my desk. Thank you!" Then he selected the text and gave the command to speak it from the SimpleText menu. Sure enough, a janitor was cleaning the cubicle next to his and, after a minute of hearing it repeated in that robotic and startled "Fred" voice, he did just that... walked around and popped in the zip disk. Mark then copied the files he needed to his Mac at home. Cool, huh?
